What Does a Handover Inspection Include?

A handover inspection provides you a snapshot of the newly built house, based on a comprehensive visual assessment of what our licensed building inspector can see on that day.

Areas typically inspected include:

  • Interior of building (flooring, walls, doors, windows, ceilings etc)
  • Roof space (insulation, timber wall frames)
  • Exterior of building (exterior walls; stairs, balconies, pergolas or decks; hot water systems)
  • Sub-floor space
  • Roof Exterior (roof, guttering and drainage
  • External areas of property within 30m of building (if applicable – driveways, pathways and fencing; retaining walls)

Do I Need to Get a Handover Inspection?

All handover inspections are optional, and are at the discretion of the new owner.

Depending on who is building the house, the builder will likely organise for one of their own staff to inspect the property for defects in the lead up to handover, or practical completion.
